The final two years of high school at PSI are a preparation for college or university. Our grade 11 and 12 students are involved in courses that are included in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme of study, a rigorous pre-university curriculum for students aged 16-19. Students may elect to participate in the Diploma Programme at PSI in one of three ways:
- The IB Diploma option
- The IB Certificate option
- The PSI Graduation option
All three tracks allow students to qualify for a PSI High School Diploma as long as they satisfy the requirements for graduation. Students who have fulfilled these will be awarded a PSI High School Diploma, equivalent to a North American style High School Diploma and therefore valid for admission to universities that require such a qualification.
By having three programme options that all lead to graduation from high school, students are able to choose an option that is both academically challenging to them but that also can be tailored to suit their needs.
The IB Diploma option is the most demanding of the three tracks in terms of student motivation and commitment, class and independent study time, study skills and application.
Through the IB Certificate option, students can put together a range of courses that are externally examined. There is more flexibility than in the IB Diploma option regarding the number of courses and the levels of courses studied.
The PSI Graduation option includes the same flexibility as the IB Certificate option, and is designed to allow students to receive a High School Diploma without necessarily sitting any external examinations.
It is important that the admission requirements of colleges and universities are taken into account when deciding which track is the most suitable.
