PSI is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in our care. We support the rights of the child and will act without hesitation to ensure a child-safe environment. We also support the rights and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers and encourage their active participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for all participants.
To this end, we seek to educate and nurture every child in a holistic manner. We have counselors based both in the Primary and Secondary Schools. Their aim is to support students academically, socially and emotionally, in a way that is collaborative and complementary to our classroom teachers.
Our Primary counselor may meet with individual students as required or counsel in small groups, whilst also providing support within the classroom by conducting guidance lessons.
We have a well developed behavioural intervention support programme that our counselor is experienced to implement with parents and staff. In addition, our Primary counselor supports students’ transition from Grade 5, in the Primary School, to Grade 6, in the Secondary School, where students commence the MYP.
Finally, PSI has a well recognised Child Protection Protocol, to which our Primary counselor has made major contributions. She also serves as a representative on the PTA, therefore remaining well connected to the views of the teaching faculty.
Students, parents and staff who wish to contact the Primary counselor may do so with the assurance that confidentiality will always be honoured. There is an open door policy so please do stop by to schedule a time to meet or contact by email.
Our Secondary counselor provides support, advice and counseling for personal, social and academic concerns. She works with students, parents and teachers to address any Secondary student issues that arise. Support is provided within the classrooms, in particular through a well developed Personal Excellence (PEx) homeroom programme, where students engage in discussions and activities based on varied personal, social and emotional issues with the Counselor and homeroom teacher.
In addition, our Secondary counselor provides assistance to new students transitioning to PSI through our ambassador programme, thereby helping new students settle in well to the MYP or DP.
Throughout the DP, the counselor works extensively alongside students and parents going through the process required for university selections. This includes organising university representative visits to PSI, as well as support with entrance tests, essays, applications, interviews and all the required decision making.
Lastly, serving as a PTA and Green Committee representative, the Secondary counselor remains well connected with school community agendas and concerns.
